Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park and Mill Creek Campground (CA)

The date was 18 Sep 2019; and after our brief visit at Crissey Field State Recreation Site & Welcome Center, we were back on Highway 101 headed south. In short order, and after 61 days in Oregon and Washington, we crossed back into our home state of California. And with that, we finally had our T-Mobile service back!

And what a welcome—65° F and a misty rain. Oh, and then there were all of the giant redwoods! I'd never been to this area of our beautiful state (although Margaret had many years previously), and it was further proof of the astonishingly gorgeous wonders in its diverse landscape. The sites and smells were rich, earthy, and very "redwood-y."

Margaret had planned to stop at Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. We arrived within the park at 2:00 P.M. and were soon checked in to campsite #99. With Margaret's pass, it was $17.00 for the night (otherwise, $34/night to camp).

Walking among these world famous giants was a distinct privilege I hadn't expected and very much appreciated.

Margaret took Peaches on one of their "adventure walks" and they ended up along the shores of the Smith River.

After our night at Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, we drove into Crescent City, where we got the Roadtrek fueled up and topped off its propane tank. It was time for an oil change, too. After driving about 7 miles south we arrived at the Mill Creek Campground in the Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park. After check in, we settled into campsite #37 for the night. After setting up I sat outside to enjoy a late lunch among the incredibly gorgeous trees!

Walking around the campground was an earthly enchanting experience.

Everything was so green! Moss, ferns, shrubs, and those trees!

The following morning I made banana walnut pancakes for breakfast. Yum! Afterwards, it was time to clean up, pack up, and move on to more camping in the lush forests of Northern California.
