Hello, Oregon!

It's been 18 days since we posted our last two entries (Lassen Volcanic National Park and Mount Shasta); and we've traveled through Oregon and Washington, visited numerous places, camped at several, and visited with family. Today, we are parked at a public library utilizing their rather slow public Wi-Fi. I sure hope we can catch up a bit!

On the 82nd day of our West Coast States Adventure and several hours after leaving the Mount Shasta area on 12 July 2019 we crossed into Oregon and made it to our first Oregon stop, the Midland Rest Stop on U.S. Route 97. It was nearly 9:00 p.m., and we were more than ready to rest.

I did a quick walk around, checking things out and taking a few photographs. There were only a handful of personal vehicles and quite a few semi-trucks. We both felt quite safe there.

This section of U.S. Route 97 is one of the nation's highways known as a Blue Star Memorial Highway.

It was comfortably cool overnight with some highway noise and an occasional train; but the other travelers were quiet, which made for a decent night's sleep. A really positive thing about traveling in Oregon is that, unlike California and Washington, where one may stay up to only 8 hours, in Oregon, you can stay in a rest stop for up to 12 hours.

The rest stop and surrounding areas were well kept and clean.

The information center was closed when we arrived; but there were clean restrooms, vending machines, and some travel information available in a kiosk.

Just four miles before we reached the rest stop, Margaret's Roadtrek turned over 100,000 miles. It's a 2004, and she's had it since Nov 2011. As of the date of this posting, we've gone over 3,100 miles; and there are many miles remaining to get back to our home base in San Diego.

The Roadtrek's odometer turned over 100,000 miles!

We left the rest stop the next morning and headed to one of the most amazing and gorgeous natural wonders in the world. Thank you for your patience and for coming along on our adventure!

Wow, that's a lot of miles! Is the truck running well, though? That's the important thing.
I'm sure Oregon will be beautiful. I've always wanted to visit. My mom grew up there.

Yes, Cyn, my van is running just fine. I recently (in Redding) bought four new tires and a new windshield and had the oil changed, I’ll have its regular preventive maintenance done when we get back to home base. Oregon is very beautiful, and I am looking forward to our return southward to explore the world renowned Oregon Coast!

Oh I'm happy to know the van is humming along! I'm sure it appreciated those refreshments you gave it. Enjoy your travels...I really do love reading along!
